The title of this series borrows from Bob Ross’ inspirational and entirely hypothetical landscapes. In these photographs, humble murals and billboards awkwardly depict what the land majestically offers. In some there is a direct reproduction of the landscape, expressing a sort of hometown pride while implying that a duplicate in picture form is needed to make us notice where we are. In others there is a stark disconnect between the location and the far-off paradise promoted in the signage. Ultimately, the pictorial versions of these places are familiar and safe, reducing the sublime to an unintimidating series of happy little clouds.
